Find Your Own Path

This is my first blog, Ever. My, My times they are a changing. I remember back in 1980, my father told me I needed to make my career choice in computers. I laughed at him and said I'm just learning to run a cash register. (back then we actually had to think and know math to give back correct change. ) I should have probably listened to him. However, once I graduated and left the "Dairy Mart". I decided to work for an Insurance Company. I new nothing about insurance and began working as a file clerk. The pay was pitiful. I knew if I worked hard, I could work my way up. Surely enough after 3 months I got promoted to Dental Secretary.

Now that was a step up for me. I got my own desk and my own phone. The first call I made was to my mom. I was very excited. I told her I had my own desk and was calling her from my own phone. She was thrilled. Her expectations of me was to be a Secretary, like her.

I knew better, this was just the beginning. I batched dental claims for about 3 more months, my boss really liked me and raved about me to the top manager. It wasn't to long until he started hanging out in my department, which was really rather small compared to the "Medical Unit" which made me kinda nervous. One Friday he approached my desk. He asked if I would consider starting in Medical Claims. He explained that they were starting a training class and he thought I would do really well. The pay was more after I passed the class. On the other hand if I didn't pass the class, I wouldn't have a job. Hummm. Learn 300 medical terms in 6 weeks, the computer (which I didn't even know how to turn on much less use one.) a medical plan benefits and the percentage it pays out. Wow, I was really scared could I really handle all that? I asked him if it would be alright if I got back to him. He said sure, he needed an answer by Monday as the class started on the following Wedneday. I'll tell you my answer on my next blog... So long for now.
